Base Salary $30,000–$40,000 DOE + Bonus & Commission Opportunities
Position Overview
Do you enjoy helping people, solving problems, and building relationships with customers?
Our State Farm agency is looking for a full-time Customer Service Representative to join our Platte City team. This role is ideal for someone who takes pride in providing excellent service, enjoys finding solutions, and can confidently manage multiple priorities throughout the day.
Our Customer Service Representatives are an important part of the relationships we build with our customers. You will help customers understand their insurance, make changes to their policies, navigate billing and claims questions, and identify opportunities to make sure their coverage continues to meet their needs.
Prior insurance experience is not required. Customer service experience is a plus, and we are willing to train the right person who brings a positive attitude, strong communication skills, attention to detail, and a desire to learn.
Insurance licensing is required for this position, but you do not need to already be licensed when you apply.
What You'll Do
As a member of our customer service team, you will
- Answer incoming customer calls and provide prompt, professional assistance.
- Help customers with billing questions, payments, policy changes, and general insurance questions.
- Process policy changes and other customer service requests accurately and efficiently.
- Assist customers throughout the claims process and help them understand next steps.
- Review renewals and proactively identify opportunities to address coverage or account concerns.
- Assist with customer retention and remarketing when appropriate.
- Schedule and support insurance and account review appointments.
- Follow up with customers regarding outstanding questions, documents, or service needs.
- Welcome and assist customers who visit our office.
- Complete assigned tasks and follow-ups accurately and on time.
- Identify opportunities to cross-sell additional insurance products when they would benefit the customer.
- Work closely with our sales and service teams to provide a consistent customer experience.
- Maintain accurate documentation of customer conversations and account activity.
What Success Looks Like
A successful Customer Service Representative is dependable, responsive, and takes ownership of the customers and tasks assigned to them.
Typical expectations include
- Handling an average of approximately 20 customer calls per day.
- Completing assigned tasks and follow-up activities consistently and accurately.
- Responding to customer needs in a timely manner.
- Helping resolve customer concerns before they become larger problems.
- Maintaining strong customer relationships and supporting agency retention.
- Recognizing opportunities for additional insurance coverage when appropriate.
- Providing a customer experience that makes people want to continue doing business with our agency.
While there are opportunities to earn commissions and bonuses,
this is primarily a customer service and relationship-management position, not a traditional sales role.
Who We're Looking For
The right person for our service team is
- Customer-focused and genuinely enjoys helping people.
- Patient and empathetic when working through customer concerns.
- Organized and detail-oriented.
- Calm and professional, even during difficult conversations.
- Proactive rather than waiting for someone else to solve a problem.
- Solutions-oriented and willing to research an issue until an answer is found.
- Able to manage multiple customers, phone calls, tasks, and priorities throughout the day.
- A strong communicator and listener.
- Dependable and accountable for following through on commitments.
- Comfortable identifying additional insurance needs when appropriate.
- Team-oriented and willing to help coworkers when needed.
- Coachable and interested in learning and improving.
- Able to balance speed and efficiency with accuracy and a positive customer experience.
Experience & Licensing
- Prior customer service experience is preferred but not required.
- Prior insurance experience is a plus but is not necessary.
- Strong written, verbal, and listening skills.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to learn and use computer systems and insurance technology.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced office environment.
- Willingness and ability to obtain all required insurance licenses before beginning licensed job duties.
- Ability to successfully complete applicable State Farm training requirements.
We are willing to train the right candidate and provide reimbursement for applicable licensing expenses.
Compensation
This position includes
- $30,000–$40,000 base salary, depending on experience
- Bonus and Commission opportunities for certain activities
Commissions and bonuses provide additional earning potential, but sales production is not the primary focus of this position.
Benefits
As an Agent Team Member, you will receive
- 401(k) with employer match
- Paid time off
- Paid holidays
- Bonus and commission opportunities
- Insurance licensing reimbursement
- Training and professional development
- Growth potential and opportunities for advancement within our agencies
Schedule & Location
This is a full-time, in-person position based in our Platte City office.
Team members may occasionally be asked to assist at our Parkville-area office due to unexpected staffing needs, weather, or other unusual circumstances, but Platte City will be the primary work location.
Growth Opportunities
We want our team members to build careers, not simply fill positions.
A strong Customer Service Representative can develop deeper insurance knowledge, take on additional responsibilities, increase earning potential, move into leadership opportunities, or transition into other roles within our agencies.
For individuals interested in a long-term career in insurance, this position provides the opportunity to develop valuable experience in customer relationships, insurance products, account management, retention, and agency operations.
Why Join Our Team?
Insurance can be confusing, and our customers often contact us when they need someone they trust to help them understand what to do next.
We want to be that resource.
Our team focuses on building long-term relationships rather than treating customers like transactions. We believe great service means listening carefully, communicating clearly, following through on what we promise, and finding solutions that make sense for each customer's situation.
We are looking for someone who takes pride in doing things the right way, wants to become a trusted resource for our customers, and enjoys being part of a team that serves the community around us.
If you are organized, dependable, enjoy solving problems, and can see yourself building relationships with customers every day, we would like to hear from you.
Please complete our application, and we will follow up with qualified candidates regarding the next steps in our interview process.
